Abstract

The presence of building defects poses significant challenges to the sustainability and functionality of university facilities over time. At Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), these defects negatively impact building performance, visual appeal, and operational efficiency, underscoring the need for an effective solution. Implementing green building maintenance practices provides a feasible way to address these challenges by merging eco-friedly strategies with modern maintenance techniques. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine the impact of green building maintenance practices on addressing critical defects at UiTM. To identify crucial maintenance techniques, their benefits, and their real-world applications, the review compiles the body of available research. The results highlight effective approaches that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and identify significant gaps in existing frameworks. To enhance building performance, reduce defects, and encourage sustainable maintenance practices at higher education institutions, this study aims to develop an institutional framework tailored for UiTM.
